Defensive Driving Course

From 9:00AM to 3:30PM

Herkimer County is offering the six-hour Defensive Driving Course to Herkimer County residents and non-residents. The course will be held at the 911 Building, 71 Reservoir Road, near the HCCC Campus and includes a 1/2 hour lunch. Enrollment is on a first come basis. Payment is $35.00 and includes all books and materials. Upon completion of the classroom training, participants are eligible for a reduction in New York State Points and Insurance. Annual Salem Church Auction

Annual Church Auction at Salem United Methodist Church, 1254 Stone Arabia Road, Fort Plain. Lunch will be served at 11:30am. There will also be new and used items, QUILTS, baked goods, pies, chocolate jumbles, etc.

“TOAST TO THE GENERAL” Wine Fest/Candlelight t

From 6:00PM to 9:00PM

Enjoy live blues and spectacular views while sampling some of New York’s finest wines. Visitors learn about the history of General Herkimer, enjoy live blues music with Mike Herman, and share a toast with “Nicholas and Maria Herkimer” on the Mansion's piazza. Guests experience an evening tour of General Herkimer's home and are invited to visit the root cellar where he stored his wine.

Toast to the General! Wine Festival & Candlelight Tour celebrates the history of wine in New York with exclusive evening tours of the Mansion, appearances by “General Nicholas and Maria Herkimer,” and live blues on the lawn. The candlelit Mansion tour is included with your ticket purchase. Visitors can bring a blanket and relax on the lawn as they sample wines. Individual tickets are $30 per person.

Tickets are now available at HerkimerHomeAcademy.org or the Visitor Center desk at Herkimer Home State Historic Site.

To accompany the wine tasting, a variety of food and desserts will be available on site from the Friends of Herkimer Home. Outside food and beverages are not allowed. Pets are also not allowed. Guests can take home a remembrance of Toast with the General! from the Gift Shop at Herkimer Home, open until 9:00 p.m.

Toast to the General! Wine Festival & Candlelit Tour takes place rain or shine, tickets are limited and all sales are final. This is a popular event; early ticket purchase is suggested.

Guests must be prepared to show identification for wine service. Designated drivers will receive free Herkimer Home iced tea beverages. All proceeds benefit Herkimer Home’s educational programs. Herkimer Home State Historic Site, administered by the Central Region of the New York State Offices of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, is located 3 miles southeast of Little Falls at the intersection of New York Thruway Exit 29A.
