Celebration Roast for Susan Perkins

From 6:00PM to 8:00PM

We would like to invite you to a very special “Celebration Roast for Susan Perkins,” executive director of the Herkimer County Historical Society, for her 30 years of service – to be held at the Knights Inn in Little Falls.

The evening will feature a buffet dinner, with Susan’s favorite dishes selected, followed by an entertaining roast celebration. Joseph Cirillo, the Society’s current president, and former summer employee at the Society, has taken on the task of Roastmaster. Joining him to roast Susan will be James Greiner, Herkimer County historian and history teacher at West Canada Valley High School; Sylvia Rowan, Herkimer County Clerk and long-time Board member and co-chairwoman of the Society’s Celebrity Breakfast; John Scarano, executive director of the Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce and entertaining head server at the Celebrity Server Breakfast; Jane Spellman, retired director of the Herkimer County Historical Society (1973-1995); and Jeff Steele, vice-president of the Herkimer County Historical Society and long-time volunteer.

Tickets for the Roast are $25.00/person and are requested to be purchased in advance by stopping in at the Historical Society, 406 N. Main St., Herkimer or by mailing in a check to their address at 400 N. Main St., Herkimer.

A commemorative booklet is also being done for that evening in honor of Susan that will be given to the dinner guests that evening. For information on how you can sponsor an ad for the booklet sharing a special message for Susan, please visit the Society’s website at www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyhchs/ or call (315)866-6413 weekdays.

Susan began volunteering for the Herkimer County Historical Society in 1977 and became a full-time employee in 1982 as Registrar responsible for cataloging and intake of the Society’s vast collection. She soon proved herself invaluable and became Administrative Assistant in 1985 overseeing the volunteer staff, educational activities, cataloging collections, assisting with the Capital Campaign construction project and the 1991 Herkimer County 200th Anniversary Celebration, and installing exhibits. At the end of 1995, when former director Jane Spellman retired, Susan took over the job of administrative director.

In addition to her work as director at the Society, Susan is the town of Manheim historian, secretary for the Friends of Historic Herkimer County to save the old 1834 Herkimer County Jail, and is a member of many local and regional historical organizations.

Susan has spent many years helping people discover their family roots and appreciate the interesting local history we have here in Herkimer County. The Society hopes everyone can join them in paying tribute to her efforts in sharing an evening of food and laughter.
